The board consists of five members, each residents of Nichols Hills. One member of the board from each ward is appointed by the councilman who represents the ward, with the approval of the city council. There are also two at large members of the board that are appointed by the mayor, with the approval of the city council.
The Nichols Hills Arts Public Arts Commission duties and responsibilities:
Assess the condition of existing Works of Art on display in the City’s Parks and make recommendations first to the Board of Park Commissioners and then to the City Council regarding those Works of Art as deemed necessary from time to time.
Formulate and recommend policies to the City Council for the display of Works of Art in the City’s Parks.
Identify suitable Works for Art for display in the City’s Parks and make recommendations and provide advice first to the Board of Park Commissioners and then to the City Council regarding such Works of Art, including recommendations as to how, when, and where each should be displayed.
If approved in advance by the City Council to do so, solicit submissions for Works of Art.
Assist the City in contracting with artists for the donation, commission or purchase of Works of Art.
When approved by the City Council in advance to do so, retain the services of outside consultants as necessary to assist in the Commission’s fulfillment of its duties.
When requested by the Board of Park Commissioners or the City Council, consider, investigate, report, and recommend upon any special matter or question pertaining to Works of Art in the City.
